Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.

Enrollment Notes:

  • Age Requirements: Students must meet the age requirement by the audition date (August 21). Not all 6-year-olds will be the right fit for this production, and some may be directed toward other classes that better support their growth at this time.

  • Transition Year: This season will serve as a transition year as we realign our program structure and balance our casts. Some 12-year-olds may be eligible for both groups this year; students in this age range may choose which production they would like to participate in. Beginning next year, age groupings will be clearly defined as 6–12 and 13–18.

  • Graduated Seniors: Students who have completed 12th grade are not eligible to participate in the fall show.

  • Rehearsal Availability: Students must be available for rehearsals in order to enroll. If a student can fully commit to the rehearsal schedule, they are welcome to participate, regardless of school-day structure.

  • Glow Squad: Applications will open August 1 for leadership roles including Dance Captain, Prop Master, Costume Assistant, Dramaturg, Company Leaders, and Assistant Stage Manager. Students must be 13 or older to apply.
